Chapter 1

"So ki no mai" Rukia positioned her sword "HAKUREN" a white tile wave shot out of her sword freezing the hollow in it's tracks. She turned around and slashed another. As blood poured out of it's chest she jumped onto a near by house to get a better view of her opponents.

There were many hollows, too many for one soul reaper to handle. She knew she had made a mistake no taken Ichigo up on his offer to back her up.

It was roughly 8.00pm and the Karakura town was alight with the glow of street lamps, the hollows were coming in hundreds, maybe heading on for thousands. Suddenly, she felt a sharp menacing pain in her right arm "AHHHHHHHHH" she cried out in pain and distress, she turned round only to see her whole arm had been ripped of completely, she was losing blood, and fast. Desperately, she looked behind her to see a figure... possibly in a suit. Her right arm and the sword in it rolled off the roof, Rukia herself collapsed in complete and utter agony.

A few miles away Ichigo was slowly making his way toward her, he thought he should just make sure she was ok. His eyes opened wide he could feel Rukia's spiritual pressure dropping, " RUKIA" he shouted, as he came closer to her, using flash step naturally. He saw her, with no left arm, slowly but surely bleeding out! " STUPID GIRL, what were you thinking fighting so many hollows like that, oh well I don't give a shit now, we gotta get you back to soul society! Ichigo, running as fast as he could, hollows trailing behind him and Rukia held tightly in his arms.

In squad fours barracks Rukia was sleeping in a hospital bed a bandage around her shoulder and Ichigo by her side. Her eyes opened to see Ichigo staring up at her, "Hey, welcome back, midget,"  "I'm no midget," she screamed, she was going to beat him with both arms but she suddenly remembered, she only had one.
"So I suppose you brought me here," she murmured nervously, blushes appearing on her cheeks.
"Yes I did so you are now in a debt of gratitude to me," Ichigo laughed.

At that moment captain Unohana walked through the door of Rukia's room in the barracks.
"Miss Kuchiki I have something quite important to discuss with you," she told Rukia with quite a serious tone.
"Yes captain Unohana," she said looking into Unohana's eyes.
"The only way you can have anything close a new arm again is by using something used around a century ago, called auto-mail.
"Auto-mail?" Rukia and Ichigo said, confused.
"Yes, we have records of it being used along time ago on a boy a little younger than you Kuchiki, he had a metal arm and a metal leg, it took a year for his body to get used to it and the surgery is very painful, do you still wish to go through with the procedure!"
"But as I'm older it will take me only a few months, right?" Rukia asked quite desperately.
"I have to say, no," Unohana admitted "the average time was 3 years, it was a miracle he managed to do it in a year, but luckily your height will not be a problem, he was..." Unohana looked for the right word "petite like you, Edward Elric."
"That's cool Rukia this Edward Elric guy was a midget like you," Ichigo joked he knew it was out of place but he did it anyway.
" Shut up, and as for the auto-mail, I'LL DO IT!" she exclaimed seriousness in her eyes, "but one on condition, I just want..." her tone became far weaker and she continued "for Ichigo to stay with me through it all," her cheeks became extremely red.
"Kurosaki, will that be ok with you?" Unohana asked.
"Um err, YES that will be fine," Ichigo stammered, he was very flustered at Rukia's request.
" When you get your arm back, we'll kill the hollow or human or whatever did this to you Rukia!"
"Yeah, we'll kill him!" Rukia agreed.
